Abstract

Advantage of Optical Tomography Over other Imaging Modalities Discussed with Specified Applications. Performed Optical Tomography on two Cylindrical Phantoms by creating optical setup. Cylindrical Phantoms preparation was done with PDMS material and Used it for Imaging. Image Reconstruction was done in MATLAB. Diffuse Optical Tomography(DOT) was an emerging Imaging modal for Brain Functional Imaging & continuous monitoring of brain function in infants. The thesis elaborates basic concepts which are necessary for Diffuse Optical tomography(DOT) like Importance of NIR Window, Absorption characteristics of Hb and HbO2, Light Tissue Interactions, Mie-scattering theory and Beer Lambert’s law, Light Propagation in a biological tissue approximated with Diffusion Equation(DE) and Diffusion Equation Solved with Finite Element Method(FEM). NIRFAST(Near Infrared Fluorescence and Spectro Tomography ) MATLAB based toolbox used to show absorption and scattering profile for simulated model.
