Abstract

In many physical probl e ms th e knowl e dg e is r e strict e d by th e ability to m e asur e , pr e judic e in th e obs e rvations and by an incompl e t e und e rstanding of th e physical proc e ss e s. Th e main purpos e of this study is to apply Sobol bas e d ANOVA, a computationally e ffici e nt unc e rtainty quantification approach to quantify unc e r tainti e s in a e rospac e applications. In this work, th e authors hav e studi e d compr e ssibl e , sup e rsonic e xt e rnal flow ov e r a missil e body simulat e d using CFD. Th e output param e t e rs consid e r e d ar e co e ffici e nt of drag (C D ), co e ffici e nt of lift (C L ) and co e ffici e nt of rolling mom e nt (C M ). Th e input param e t e rs consid e r e d for this study w e r e turbul e nc e mod e ls (SA, k - ω, k - ω SST), ord e r of discr e tization (1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd ) and flux e s (Ro e F, AUSM). Th e SA mod e l was analyz e d in d e tail using s e nsitivity analysis to d e t e r min e th e dominant constants. Sobol sampling t e chniqu e was us e d to g e n e rat e 62 data points which w e r e th e n us e d for unc e rtainty analysis. Th e comm e rcial CFD cod e ANSYS Flu e nt was us e d for th e num e rical simulation .
