Synthesis of benzofurans from norbornyl alpha diketones.

Abstract
2-substituted benzofuran were synthesized by two steps, 1st step involves the
proline catalyzed aldol reaction of norbornyl alpha diketones1 with acetone and the 2nd step is an
acid mediated fragmentation of the resultant acyloins which further cyclized to produce highly
substituted benzofuran .
