Abstract

The project aims at developing and forming a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which can sig- nificantly improve the current precision farming scenario. We have developed a Wireless Sensor Network using IITH Mote (an in-house developed IEEE 802.15.4 compliant radio) consisting of wireless sensors collecting various agriculture related environmental parameters (such as soil mois- ture, soil temperature, solar radiation, air temperature relative humidity etc.). The sensory data is then aggregated at a local gateway through a multi-hop communication. This data provides useful information to the farmers to improve crop productivity, and used to take a control action such as, starting or stopping of the irrigation system. The same data is also used for agriculture disease forecasting and predicting irrigation cycle schedule of the crop. Nowadays, Mobile sinks are used more and more efficiently in sensor networks to collect data for the mobility advantage in balancing energy consumption. For this we proposed a novel improved energy efficient architecture for wireless sensor networks with mobile sinks. In this proposed method, it uses an embedded database in selected cluster head nodes and static route for the Mobile sink that collects the data from each cluster head to improve network life time, improve PRR (Packet Reception Rate) and reduce power consumption of mobile sink. Low power wireless sensor network is gaining attention due to advancement of IoT. Multiple protocols has been proposed to provide communication among the IoT nodes. LoRa(Long Range Radio) is one of popular protocol in the mentioned category which we can achieve longer range with less power. We have implemented the PHY layer of the LoRa modulation in MATLAB and analysed its performance in terms of BER.
