Abstract

This work evaluates the offshore wind turbine structure (OWT) subjected to the forward directivity and fling step types of pulse ground motion. The influence of the pulse period and amplitude of the forward directivity and fling step pulses are ascertained for the ground motion generated from closed-form analysis. The probabilistic seismic demand model (PSDM) approach is used to compute the offshore wind turbine response. The OpenSees tool is used to perform nonlinear time history analysis. Finally, fragility curves are derived for serviceability limits state of wind turbines. The influence of forward directivity and fling step pulse is evaluated and compared for the tower top and pile top rotation. Results shows that the OWT is more sensitive to the directivity pulses than fling step pulse for increased pulse period, while inversed trend observed for the pulse amplitude. © 2022
