Abstract

The preparation of PANI/CeO2 nanocomposites via in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization using ammonium persulfate as an oxidant with the different molar ratio of cerium oxide nanoparticles in aniline monomer is reported. The cerium oxide nanoparticles were prepared by co-precipitation method. The effect of the addition of ceria with 0.001,0.002,0.003,0.004,0.005 molar ratio in PANI/CeO2 nanocomposite were investigated with characterization technique like FTIR, XRD, XRF, SEM, TEM, Four-Probe conductivity measurement. The effects of CeO2 content on the microwave absorption properties of PANI/CeO2 composites were investigated by PNA Network Analyzer. FTIR spectra confirmed the formation of PANI; TEM images revealed the formation of nanorod-shaped PANI in PANI/CeO2 composite. Four-probe measurement shows no significant change in conductivity with CeO2 content in PANI/CeO2 composite. The PANI/CeO2 nanocomposite exhibited the best absorption property with the optimum matching thickness of 1.8 mm in the frequency of 12-18 GHz. The value of the maximum RL was −9 dB at 9.86 GHz . PANI/CeO2 nanocomposite can be used as a potential microwave absorptive material.
