Abstract

We, hereby, report the synthesis of stilbene analogs via classical Wittig reaction. This stilbene core skeleton is found in many natural products like Resveratrol, Combrestatins, and Pterostilbenes; etc. The olefinic double bond present in these analogs is synthesized exploiting Wittig reaction between biarylated Wittig salt and different substituted aryl aldehydes. An environmentally benign and cost-effective method is developed as sodium methoxide as a base is used in methanol as a solvent for the reaction. Following the strategy developed, we have successfully synthesized 13 examples of stilbene analogs in good to excellent yields. An attempt is made to reduce this olefinic double bond present in these Stilbene analogs using palladium catalyst in the presence of hydrogen atmosphere.
