Abstract

We know that earthquakes can cause the destruction of the lives of the people and the GDP of the country. So the structures in earthquake-prone areas are such that they should be efficient enough to resist the earthquake loading. If we go for RCC structures, they are brittle in nature and they are not that efficient in undergoing large displacements so to have the structure with less damage either we must go for large cross sections or else we have to do ductile detailing. So, we need the structures which gives less damage. Domes are the types of structures which are considered as stronger, stiffer, stable due to their curved surface. Generally, domes are provided for long span structures as the need to provide intermediate support is very less because the structure is strong enough to sustain due to its geometrical traits. In the present work the study is mainly focused on the single layer reticulated domes which are not of long span. There are various types domes based on the structural arrangement of members such as Ribbed, Schwedler, Lamella, Geodesic. Here the domes are Metal Spatial Frame Structures. The above mentioned domes with different meridional angle for Ribbed, Schwedler, Lamella and different frequency for Geodesic have been studied under various type of earthquakes such as recorded ground motions, Basin ground motions and the ground motions with directivity effect. Keywords: Single Layer Reticulated, OpenSees, Pulse and Non Pulse, Basin effect, Directivity, Buckling, Distributed Plasticity.
